Deconstruct is a Power & Associates special project that seeks to break the law down into its constituent parts in order to provide tangible and accessible explanations that will empower people to make informed decisions about their realities. Deconstruct seeks to address prevalent issues, by unpacking the context, the law, and the different responses people may want to consider.
What is Deconstruct // OBGV?

Deconstruct // Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV) is the first instalment of the Deconstruct project and focuses on gender-based violence in an online context. The toolkits and resources of Deconstruct // OGBV seek to provide clarity on the different legal remedies, and the technical options and psycho-social support structures available to survivors, victims, and persons affected by online harms.
What are OGBV toolkits and how can they help me?

This first series of OGBV toolkits are designed to be accessible and user-friendly guides for survivors, victims, and persons affected by online harms. The toolkits can help by providing information about where to go and what to do if you have experienced online harm. They also provide resources and guidance on issues relating to online gender-based violence. The toolkits highlight some of the realities you may face when reporting online harms, giving an overview of what to expect and what to do if you are not appropriately assisted. In addition to legal and technical information, these toolkits seek to emphasise the importance of support and self-care and encourage you to make choices that are right for you. These toolkits are not meant to be prescriptive guides on what you must do. They are meant to provide you with information and resources so that you can understand your options and make informed decisions.
What topics do the toolkits cover?

The first set of toolkits cover online gender-based violence including the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, online sexual harassment, and children’s online safety in relation to online child sexual exploitation and abuse. Each toolkit deconstructs various legal protections and responses, unpacks different technical options, and discusses the importance of psycho-social support structures.
