Submission Overview: Power Singh Inc. assisted the SOS Coalition: Support Public Broadcasting and Media Monitoring Africa in preparing a submission to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) on the draft Sports Broadcasting Services Amendment Regulations, 2018 (draft Regulations). The submission highlighted the important role that national sports events play in uniting South Africans and promoting inclusivity and diversity and further the need for due regard to the public interest in respect of national sports events. In particular, the submission focused on the role of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) as the public broadcaster and a free-to-air licensee and proposed measures to increase viewers’ access while balancing it against the technical and financial constraints faced by the SABC.
