African Commission publishes revised Rules of Procedure
The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Commission) has published revised Rules of Procedure, which came into force on 2 June 2020. As set out in the press release issued by the African Commission, the changes introduced by the revised Rules of Procedure include in respect of the following:
- Mandate and status of the African Commission.
- Code of conduct.
- Sessions of the African Commission.
- The focal point of states parties.
- The role of national human rights institutions.
- The communications procedure of the African Commission.
- Relationship between the African Commission and the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Court).
According to the press release, all stakeholders are encouraged to rely on the revised Rules of Procedure in engaging with the African Commission, in order to ensure a more efficient and effective execution by the African Commission of its mandate under the African Charter.
