Information Regulator publishes guidance note on applications for prior authorisation
On 11 March 2021, South Africa’s Information Regulator published a Guidance Note on Applications for Prior Authorisation.
The Guidance Note seeks to guide responsible parties who are currently processing or intend to process personal information, which is subject to prior authorisation, to ensure compliance with the relevant provisions of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Furthermore, responsible parties may submit their applications for prior authorisation by completing the Application Form for Prior Authorisation. This will ensure that the Information Regulator is provided with enough information to gain a full understanding of the nature of the personal information processed by the applicant subject to prior authorisation.
