South Africa: Artificial Intelligence Institute of South Africa launched
On Wednesday, 30 November 2022, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT), together with the Tshwane University of Technology and the University of Johannesburg, launched the Artificial Intelligence Institute of South Africa (AIISA).
The launch follows the 2020 report of the Presidential Commission on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (PC4IR) which recommended the establishment of an AI institute to enable research & development as well as training in various sectors. The AIISA aims to support the private and public sectors in driving creative AI technology and knowledge and to generate knowledge and AI applications to enable the country to become a more competitive player in the global AI arena.
