Name change
We are proud to announce that Power Singh Inc. is now Power & Associates.
In anticipation of our fifth anniversary, this marks an important milestone in our journey to become a leading public interest law firm in Africa.
We chose the name Power & Associates to recognise the growing team of wonderful young lawyers and candidate legal practitioners that make up our organisation and define its work. Together, we will continue on our mission to provide high-quality legal services, use the law to drive social progress, and support cases and causes that matter.
As we look forward, we are proud of our achievements since our founding in 2018.
This includes supporting multiple clients in public interest matters, engaging in ongoing strategic and test litigation and law reform processes, and appearing in nearly every branch of the South African court system, including magistrates’ courts, equality courts, high courts, the Supreme Court of Appeal, and the Constitutional Court.
Last year we launched the Justice Centre, a first-of-its-kind service offering pro bono advice and legal support on information rights and online harms, and this year we launched our Candidate Legal Practitioner programme.
During this time, our growing team of associates have established themselves as emergent expert practitioners in constitutional and administrative law, information rights and media law, public international and regional law, equality, inclusion, and children’s rights law, and protections for victims and survivors of online gender-based violence, among others.

New practices and services
Additionally, Power & Associates launches with a revised service offering which adds environmental and sustainability law and social enterprise and CSO law to our existing practice areas.
As we look to the future, we recognise the contributions of former colleagues and alumni who have helped to make these accomplishments possible, and in particular we acknowledge the role of Avani Singh as our firm’s co-founder and a director from 2017-2021.
Going forward, Power & Associates will continue to work in association with ALT Advisory to drive innovation in human rights and public law, to amplify voices for change, and to model a sustainable approach to access to justice and social progress in South Africa, and on the African continent.
We are excited about what the future holds but we know there is still much to be done. We look forward to working with all our clients, colleagues, and partners to promote justice, protect human rights, and build a better future for all.
