Welcoming Sophie Smit as a Candidate Legal Practitioner
We’re delighted to announce that Sophie Smit has joined Power & Associates as a Candidate Legal Practitioner.
Sophie holds B.A., LL.B., and LL.M in human rights, advocacy and litigation degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand. During her LL.M., she received distinctions for advanced administrative law and international human rights law. Her Masters thesis focused on the right to education for undocumented migrants which covered two of her interest areas – migrants and children rights.
Sophie also has a keen interest in international law and completed the René Cassin Foundation – International Institute for Human Rights Summer Session on International Human Rights, Humanitarian and Criminal law.
Before joining Power & Associates, Sophie held the position of a legal researcher at the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF), a civil society organisation that promotes constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. Sophie worked at HSF for four years where she researched and made submissions on various public law matters focusing on administrative and constitutional law.
