SLAPPback.org.za: strategies to counter abuse of court processes in South Africa
SLAPPback.org.za is an online resource, prepared by Power Law Africa on behalf of Moxii Africa (formerly Media Monitoring Africa), to raise awareness of common forms of weaponisation of court processes in South Africa, and strategies to defend freedom of expression and public participation.
It was produced in the context of a continuing trend, in South Africa and many other jurisdictions, of powerful actors abusing legal processes in order to intimidate and silence individuals and organisations who speak out on matters of public interest. Protecting the right to participate is essential for ensuring that our constitutional democracy remains meaningful, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of everyone.
