Promoting Menstrual Hygiene Day 2020
Today marks Menstrual Hygiene Day – a day to promote good menstrual hygiene management, to break the silence, raise awareness and change the negative social stigma around menstruation.
Menstruation, the healthy, natural and integral process that girls, women and all those who menstruate, go through every month, is traditionally under-discussed and undervalued. Menstruation can affect one’s dignity, equality, sexual and health reproductive rights, gender roles, personal development and access to education.
It is necessary for all of us to develop our understanding of good menstrual hygiene and engage with decision-makers to prioritise positive conversations and actions at international, national and local levels. Dignity and equality must be central to these discussions and actions, and collectively we must ensure that those who menstruate are part of the conversations and are able to fully participate in decisions that impact their lives.
We note the global challenges that our current context present and we echo the reminder by UNICEF that “periods don’t stop for pandemics”. Those who menstruate have the right to manage their period safely and with dignity.
Power Singh Inc. values equality and inclusion and supports the idea and hopes to see the reality that no one is held back because of their period. We support the menstrual hygiene movement and encourage ongoing actions and conversations.
